Monsters of Cosmetics: Kind of a PSA.

Hello Lovelies!

It was asked of us a while back whether it was safe to use some colors on lips. We've done the research and we are excited to tell you that all of the following ARE APPROVED for use on lips!

  • Two-Timing
  • Hourglass
  • Sundial
  • Cuckoo
  • Alarm Clock
  • Metronome
  • Time Square
  • High Noon
  • Pocket Watch
  • Grandfather Clock
  • Digital

Here are some colors that are NOT approved for use on lips.

  • Oh-Nine-Hundred
  • Big Ben
  • Salvador Dali

Luckily, it's only 3 colors! In case you are getting kind of worried about why it's not okay to put these on your mouth, here's why...

The culprit is mostly this guy.....
Ferric Ferrocyanide.
Ferric Ferrocyanide in action!!!!!! WATCH OUT!!!!
[Obviously this is not actually what it looks like. lol. just trying to keep some humor going on here.]

He's harmful if ingested ONLY. But, he's totally cool for your eyes, so no worries there!

This is also a good point to mention that we are extremely careful in choosing the colors we use to make our products. For example...

There are several colors we have looked at in the process of choosing our ingredients. HOWEVER, we have turned away ALL colors that contain parabens, which is a preservative added to may mainstream cosmetics. I found this article extremely helpful in my research. One of the main points in the article is that parabens have been linked to causing breast cancer. Please take the time to read it, as it covers a lot of information that I am not going to cover here. :-)

We have also turned away ingredients that contain chromium oxide green, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, and other reproductive harm. He looks kind of like this...
Don't let the smile fool you. He's gonna eat your brains.
He's a green color, so check on the labels of your green pigments before you use them...just in case. It's kind of like checking the closet before going to be. :-)

Another scary monster of cosmetics is called Carmine...

He is made from beetles. Yes. Like the insect kind of beetle. Not the car kind of beetle. Althought, that would still be gross. I wanted to share this little bit from Discovery Science. But to sum it up, Carmine also goes by the name of Cochineal. It is one of those ingredients we don't use. It's just one of the many reason we are able to say that we are a vegan company.

Luckily, you don't have to worry about finding these guys in any of Tick:Tock Cosmetics products now or ever!!

I know I've put this all in a kind of silly package...but it's serious business. I refuse to knowingly put something harmful in our products just because it looks cool. However...a good rule of thumb...use the product for it's intended purpose. If it's an eyeshadow, just use it as an eye shadow. If it's a lipstick, just use it as a lipstick. I know we like to be creative, but let's also be safe in our creativity.

But rest assured, Tick:Tock Cosmetics is about fun colors that are safe!

That's all I've got for now, ladies! Have a great day!

Hugs,
Tiffany

P.S. I just noticed all of the monsters only have one eye. I am not racist against one eyed creatures. Here's a one eyed being that I absolutely LOVE.

You. Are. Welcome.
